Dear Colleagues,

The special Supplement of 'Allergy, Asthma & Clinical Immunology' has been pubished on the website of BioMed Central Ltd. ‘13th C1-inhibitor Deficiency & Angioedema Workshop – 2023’

Dear Colleagues,

After an extremely long break of 4 years without meeting in person, we are delighted to announce that the 13th C1-inhibitor Deficiency & Angioedema Workshop, will take place in Budapest between 4 and 7 May 2023. The organisers made lots of efforts to keep the scientific community together, so the Workshop held in virtual format in 2021, attracted more than 400 participants. As we are committed to return to the roots of our series, with the hope that neither the pandemic nor any other external factors and events will make a significant impact on us, the Workshop in 2023 will be held as a traditional, fully in person meeting.

This series of conferences organised every other year is devoted to the presentation and discussion of the latest scientific findings related to bradykinin-mediated angioedemas in the first place. It has long been known that in addition to C1-inhibitor deficiency, the background of these angioedematous disorders might also include further – genetic and other – factors. Therefore, the title of the conference has been supplemented with the word ‘Angioedema’, in order to harmonize it with its agenda.

The “For HAE Patients” prize awarding ceremony will take place during the opening session and then, the awardee will deliver the first lecture of the event. Although the Workshop and its agenda focus on the latest scientific findings presented by the participants, we shall enrich the program of this four-day event by inviting a couple of leading experts. The outstanding research, the unique thinking, and the individual problem solving strategies of these professionals are exemplary and may have a stimulatory effect on the research activities of the participants.

The expected attendance includes academic researchers, medical practitioners, biochemists, pharmacologists, drug developers, health care professionals, patients, and the representatives of their self-help groups, who are interested in this speciality. Scientific abstracts relevant to the subject of the conference are welcome. Accordingly, presentations of the recent progress made in the field of bradykinin-mediated (C1-INH deficiency-based) hereditary and acquired angioedemas, hereditary angioedema with normal C1 inhibitor function, ACE-related, or idiopathic bardykinin-mediated angioedema, etc., are awaited. Based on the abstracts and on the presentations of the invited lecturers, the Scientific Committee will again be responsible for compiling the scientific program of the conference.

The event will take place in Budapest (Hungary), at the distinguished Conference Hotel located on Margaret Island. These premises are on the shore of the Danube River and as such, are well isolated from the hustle and bustle of city life. It offers a fabulous environment for high quality, professional meetings, and intensive debates. Furthermore, it is an ideal base for willing explorers of the beautiful capital of Hungary. In particular, it is only a couple of minutes both from the culture-laden and from the historic quarters of the city.

The programme and the submitted abstracts, including the abstracts of the invited speakers at the Workshop will be published in a journal, to make them available to an even broader range of professionals interested in this subject

We look forward to welcoming you at the Budapest Workshop, to be held between 4 and 7 May 2023.

On behalf of the local organisers:

Henriette Farkas and Lilian Varga
